What items can be collected
Eligible items are small home appliances discarded from households. The opening of the collection box is limited to a size of less than 40 cm in width by less than 20 cm in height. The collection is carried out by the Osaki Regional Wide-Area Administration Association (Osaki Chiiki Koiki Gyosei Jimu Kumiai), which is made up of several municipalities including Osaki City and Shikama Town. According to the association's guidance, the collection is carried out with the aim of recovering useful metals such as rare metals contained in small home appliances no longer used in the home, and of promoting waste reduction and the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).
Characteristics and conditions of use
The box is installed inside the Shikama Town Hall building, and it can be used during the town hall's opening hours. Before depositing an item, the guidance advises erasing the information on devices that hold personal data, such as mobile phones and smartphones, and removing dry-cell batteries from the device. It also advises depositing small home appliances as they are, without taking them apart.
What to check before you use it
Devices that exceed the size of the opening cannot be deposited, so it is a good idea to check the size in advance. Collection rules differ from municipality to municipality, so please confirm the latest acceptance conditions in the official information published by the Osaki Regional Wide-Area Administration Association or by the Shikama Town Hall. When depositing small home appliances with built-in batteries, such as power banks, please take the usual precautions against fire and short-circuit accidents, for example by checking that the item is not damaged, leaking, or swollen.
