In Yamanashi City, boxes for collecting small home appliances and ink cartridges are installed at three locations: the main city hall building (West Wing) and the Mitomi and Makioka branch offices. At the time this article was written, three spots are listed on this site.
Conditions of use common to all three locations
All three are collection boxes set up and operated by Yamanashi City, and the intake conditions are exactly the same at each one. Use is limited to residents of Yamanashi City, and you must show identification when you drop items off. Only electrical products with a cord may be placed in the boxes; rechargeable products such as smartphones must be brought directly to a service counter rather than put in a collection box. Desktop and tower-type computers are not accepted at any of the three locations. The boxes can be used during each facility's opening hours, and they are located at the entrance on the first floor of the West Wing at the main building and inside each branch office at Mitomi and Makioka.
What to check before you go
Collection rules differ from one municipality to another, and the items accepted and the conditions of use may change, so please check the official information from Yamanashi City for the latest details before you actually bring anything in. Products with a built-in rechargeable battery, such as portable power banks, can catch fire if they are damaged, so please handle them with care even when bringing them to a service counter. Note as well that the four item categories covered by the Home Appliance Recycling Act (家電リサイクル法) — air conditioners, televisions, refrigerators and freezers, and washing machines and clothes dryers — are not accepted at these collection points.
